How many of us are envious of other people’s jobs?
How many of us have a passion that is not being fulfilled?
Why does it seem so much easier for some people to be happy than others?
This doesn’t just pertain to a career, this could be a passionate hobby that you spend hours doing, like Sandra and I with this show. Do we get paid? No not yet…While we absolutely love hosting this show and all that goes with it, we do not receive a dime and actually fork out money for studio time, props, and website fees Lately we have added costs due to advertising beavertalk. Is it worth it? YES! We love it, but after 4 years, we are looking for a little cash flow due to the amount of time each show takes per week. Almost everyone has financial costs when they start out doing something they love. Whether it is Music, Art, Acting, Writing, Teaching or Athletics, we all have to pay a price for that passion!
Not only does it give you a continual purpose, it gives you self worth, keeps your mind alert, and puts a spring in your step, because you love it. (And you are seldom bored…) When you excel at something, it is usually because you like doing it, or you are a great bullshit artist! LOL
I hate cooking due to the fact that I was forced to prepare dinner for 7 people every night while I was growing up. I did not put that task on my son’s shoulders, and he is now a Chef! He loves it, while I could eat dinner out 7 nights a week just to avoid the Kitchen. Sandra is a wonderful photographer and is now starting to get a little money for her passion due to a wonderful website that caters to photography. We have so many tools at our fingertips now, literally! The Internet and Computers should be some of your “best friends”.
From our early teens we are programmed to go to college or University and get a secondary education. Most parents do not focus on their kid’s passion, which usually presents itself at a very early age. If we were more supportive of that within our children, we may save them years of trying to figure out who they are, and what they want to be when they grow up! Don’t be one of those parents that live vicariously through your children by forcing your dreams onto them! It is never too late to put your passions into some form of reality.
Know the difference between getting paid for doing what you love as a career and doing it as a hobby. Sandra and I both enjoy sex, but we are not willing to get paid for it! (It was tempting in those lean years being a single mother though LOL) Many people are educated into a certain field and do not leave it for 30 years, because that is all they know, or think that is all they know. How many people can name their passion? The word Passion is a love for something, not something you just “like” doing. Sometimes it is your reason for getting up in the morning, which can be a good thing if it is not dangerously obsessive.
Careers of the past 50 years, used to be until retirement. Now with companies downsizing, merging, and nickel and diming their employees, that is becoming obsolete. People are staying for 5 years and moving on, not always by choice. This has made people realize they have to diversify their life path. (one of the reasons “life coaches” has become a new career)
So how do you find your passion if you don’t know what it is?
· Ask yourself what makes you happiest
· What gave you enjoyment as a kid?
· What makes you smile? (Even the smallest things)
· What boosts your self-esteem or ego?
· What are you best at doing?
· What do people compliment you on?
· If you could do anything you want, what would it be?
These are all really good questions because they are simple, but make you think. That is where passion is derived from. People who make this a part of their life, are usually the most successful emotionally, spiritually and many times financially. When we love something and are passionate about it, it can be easy money because we are good at it. Don’t waste time at a dead end job that depresses you on a daily basis. At the very least, open the doors to new adventures Even the smallest baby steps, can set a new path. You may be surprised where one may lead you down the road. Remember the cliche: When one door closes…another one opens.
